WDIV Weather Update: High Wind Watch & Potential Snow for Southeast Michigan
Detroit, MI – March 12, 2026 – A High Wind Watch has been issued for all of Southeast Michigan, effective from 5 AM Friday through 8 PM. Residents should prepare for potentially hazardous conditions as southwest winds are expected to reach 25 to 35 mph, with gusts up to 55 mph. This information is brought to you by the trusted weather team at WDIV ClickOnDetroit.
Today’s Forecast: Brisk and Cooler
Today will be sunny, but significantly cooler and breezy. High temperatures will be in the low 40s, with wind gusts near 25 mph. These gusts will make it feel even colder, with wind chills dropping into the 30s. While a welcome return to sunshine, it’s a reminder that winter isn’t quite finished with us yet.
Friday: Snow Possible, Especially North of M-59
Temperatures will rebound into the 40s on Friday, but a winter weather system is on the horizon. Accumulating snow is possible Friday morning, with minor accumulations potentially reaching as far south as I-94. However, the best chance for 1-3 inches of snowfall will be north of M-59.
We could see the first flakes as early as midnight, with a more widespread wintry mix of rain and snow arriving before sunrise. Most of the precipitation should clear out by 9 AM, leaving behind isolated flurries throughout the afternoon.
Weekend Outlook: More Snow & Potential Thunderstorms
Another round of accumulating snow is likely Saturday night into early Sunday. Looking ahead to Sunday, thunderstorms are possible later in the day, accompanied by strong winds continuing into Monday as a colder air mass moves in.
Next Week: A Return to Freezing Temperatures
Expect temperatures to fall below average on Monday and Tuesday, with highs near or below freezing and lows dipping into the teens, potentially even single digits. Be sure to protect sensitive plants and prepare for icy conditions.
