Maple Ridge, BC – The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has taken the lead in a case following the death of a man in Maple Ridge on Monday evening. The incident occurred near the intersection of 238th Street and 110th Avenue, prompting a swift response from RCMP and emergency health services.
What Happened?
At approximately 7:30 p.m., first responders were dispatched to the location after reports of a woman screaming. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 49-year-old man in medical distress within a garage. Despite immediate life-saving efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. One individual was arrested in connection with the incident.
IHIT investigators believe this to be an isolated incident, and that those involved were known to each other. Sergeant Freda Fong of IHIT confirmed that the investigation is not currently linked to gang activity or extortion.
Neighbourhood Reaction
Local resident Erin Kelly shared with Global News that police had been called to the residence previously. “The police showed up really quick so I assume maybe they’d been already called, knowing something was going down,” Kelly stated. “They were here earlier this week, too, so unfortunately, it got a lot worse this time.”
IHIT’s Investigation
While the relationship between the suspect and the victim remains unconfirmed, IHIT is actively working to determine the full circumstances surrounding the death and the roles of all individuals involved. Sergeant Fong emphasized the importance of establishing the connections between those involved and confirming the nature of their relationship.
“We are determining everyone’s involvement and the role they play in this incident,” Fong explained. “What’s important is that they’re known to each other, and that this appears to be an isolated incident.”
