A Heartbreaking Discovery in Nova Scotia
A community in Nova Scotia is reeling after a harrowing weekend search ended in tragedy. Following an intensive investigation by the Halifax Regional Police and Nova Scotia Ground Search and Rescue, the remains of a newborn baby were found in a wooded area, leading to serious criminal charges against two individuals.
The case has sparked widespread shock and sadness, highlighting a devastating sequence of events that began with an urgent 911 call and ended with a grim discovery off Old Coach Road.
The Charges and Court Proceedings
On Monday, Sukhpreet Singh, 23, and his wife, Ramandeep Kaur, 26, appeared virtually in the Halifax provincial court. The couple faces a series of grave allegations, including:

- Obstruction of justice
The Crown has requested a three-day adjournment, citing the potential for further serious charges as the investigation evolves. Both Singh and Kaur remain in custody pending their bail hearing.
Timeline of a Tragic Search
The incident began late Friday night around 9:40 p.m., when emergency services were alerted to a woman in life-threatening condition who appeared to have just given birth. The woman was rushed from an apartment on Willett Street in the Clayton Park neighbourhood to a nearby hospital.
However, the baby was nowhere to be found. This triggered an extensive search operation involving numerous officers and rescue teams. While the initial focus was on the Clayton Park area, new intelligence eventually redirected the search to the Prospect Road area.
The search concluded on Sunday at 3:20 p.m., when the newborn’s remains were finally found in a wooded area, approximately 10 kilometres away from the original search site. An autopsy is currently underway to determine the cause of death and whether the child was born alive.
The Mother’s Condition and Official Statements
Crown prosecutor Paul Carver informed the court that the mother of the deceased newborn remains in critical condition and is currently unresponsive. While the circumstances are harrowing, police have clarified that they do not believe the woman’s state is the result of violence, but rather a severe medical emergency.
The Maritime Sikh Society released a statement expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, offering condolences to the grieving family while stating their respect for the ongoing legal process.
