Heartbreaking Update: Victim of Côte-des-Neiges Stabbing Succumbs to Injuries
The community of Côte-des-Neiges is in mourning following the news that a 29-year-old man, who was severely injured during a violent altercation last Saturday, has passed away. His death marks a grim milestone, making him the 18th murder victim in Montréal this year.
The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) confirmed the individual’s passing on Tuesday afternoon, after he had been fighting for his life in a local hospital.
Details of the Incident on Avenue Dupuis
The violence unfolded around 3:00 PM on Saturday within a residence located on Avenue Dupuis, near Avenue Victoria. Police officers were dispatched to the scene following reports of an ongoing “conflict.” Upon arrival, emergency responders discovered the 29-year-old victim suffering from critical stab wounds to his upper body.
During the initial intervention, officers arrested a 49-year-old man found inside the apartment. After being questioned by investigators, the individual was released without charges for the time being. However, the SPVM has emphasized that he remains a “key witness” in the ongoing investigation.
Who Was the Victim?
Reports have identified the victim as Sehou Tunkara. According to available records, Tunkara had a complex legal history. In 2024, he was sentenced to two years of probation for violating conditions related to a domestic violence case. Furthermore, he was awaiting trial for charges of sexual assault committed within a domestic context.
A Disturbing Trend of Violence in Montréal
This tragedy is not an isolated incident, but rather part of a frightening spike in violent crime across the metropolis. This event represents the fourth murder committed in just ten days in different sectors of the city:
- n
- August 15 (Saint-Michel): Leakkhena Seng was fatally stabbed by her partner; the suspect subsequently took his own life.
- August 17 (Saint-Michel): Kerline Jean was brutally murdered in front of her children. The suspect, her ex-partner Betoven Étienne, has been charged with premeditated murder.
- Last Thursday (Plateau-Mont-Royal): 22-year-old Jean-Christophe Desrosiers, linked to the Blood Family Mafia, was shot dead in his truck on Avenue Henri-Julien. A woman and a teenager have since been arrested.
As the city grapples with these waves of violence, residents of Côte-des-Neiges and surrounding neighborhoods continue to call for increased security and mental health interventions to prevent such tragedies from recurring.
