Mass Shooting Rocks Seattle’s Bite of Seattle Festival: 2 Dead, 4 Injured

A day of celebration turned into a scene of terror in the heart of Washington State. A mass shooting erupted this Sunday in downtown Seattle, targeting a crowded tourist area near the iconic Space Needle, leaving a community in shock and mourning.

Chaos at the Seattle Center

The incident occurred around 6:00 PM Pacific Time at the Seattle Center, a cultural hub and home to the world-famous observation tower. The violence unfolded during the Bite of Seattle, one of the city’s largest public events, which featured over 300 food stalls and local vendors.

Witnesses described a sudden shift from a festive atmosphere to pure panic. A journalist from the Seattle Times reported hearing dull thuds followed by a rapid succession of gunshots, triggering a stampede as attendees fought to escape the gunfire.

Casualties and Emergency Response

According to reports from local media and medical facilities, the shooting resulted in two fatalities and at least four injuries. The Harborview Medical Center confirmed that the injured include:

    n

  • A minor child;
  • A 39-year-old woman;
  • A 23-year-old man;
  • A woman whose condition required immediate emergency surgery.

The Seattle Police Department (SPD) acted swiftly to secure the perimeter. Mayor Katie Wilson released a statement expressing her gratitude toward the first responders, confirming that two suspects have been taken into custody. “I want to thank the Seattle police officers who intervened on the scene and placed two suspects under custody,” Wilson stated.

The Alarming Rise of Gun Violence in the U.S.

This tragedy is not an isolated event but part of a disturbing trend across the United States. This year alone, the Gun Violence Archive (GVA) has recorded 268 mass shootings—defined as incidents involving four or more victims, excluding the attacker.

As the investigation continues, authorities have urged the public to avoid the Seattle Center area while forensic teams gather evidence. The identities of the victims have not yet been released, pending notification of their families.
