Juneau County Devastation: Tornadoes Leave a Trail of Destruction
Southern Juneau County, Wisconsin, recently experienced the wrath of a powerful tornado, leaving a path of destruction in its wake. The storm tragically leveled a rural home near Elroy, just days after the owner, Raymond Hohe, had accepted a buyer’s offer. The property, a two-story house situated on 183 acres of land on Raese Road, was completely reduced to rubble.
A Home Lost, a Barn Wrecked
Raymond and Lisa Hohe’s former getaway home was utterly destroyed by the twister. Adding to the devastation, a storage barn on the property, vital for local farmers, was also severely damaged. Brandon Evans, a farm employee, described the significant impact the tornado had on the barn, equipment, and the farm’s operations. Area farmers suffered a substantial loss with the destruction of the barn, which housed much of their essential equipment.
The tornado struck on Tuesday, a cruel twist of fate for Mr. Hohe, who had finalized the sale of his property just two days prior on Sunday. Volunteers, including Joseph Noecker, Canaan Wolf, and Glendon Oberholtzer, are already assisting Mr. Hohe with the arduous task of clearing the debris.
Weather Updates and Regional Impact
The Portage area has received approximately 1.5 inches of rain since Tuesday, compounding the challenges faced by residents. An EF0 tornado, with estimated peak winds of 85 mph, also caused damage to a garage on Shaw Hill Road, lasting about a minute around 12:44 PM. Low-lying areas have experienced flooding, and Portage crews are working diligently to drain city sewer lines.
