LEXINGTON, Ky. – A 20-year-old woman, identified as Kaydence Carpenter, has been arrested by Lexington police following an incident where she allegedly drove into a group of pedestrians in the downtown area while under the influence. The arrest occurred on Sunday, March 22nd, at approximately 2:20 a.m., according to police reports.

Details of the Incident

Police were initially dispatched to a large disturbance near Short Street and North Broadway. The situation escalated when a vehicle, driven by Kaydence Carpenter, attempted to leave a parking lot. Witnesses reported that individuals began striking the car, and Carpenter allegedly responded by accelerating and striking several pedestrians. The arrest citation states that Carpenter drove over a curb, intentionally causing physical injury to others.

According to the police report, officers observed signs of impairment, including bloodshot and watery eyes, slurred speech, and the odor of alcohol emanating from Carpenter. A fake ID was also discovered during a search of the vehicle. Carpenter reportedly refused a breathalyzer test and exhibited signs of impairment during a field sobriety test.

Kaydence Carpenter is facing multiple charges, including:

  • Reckless Driving
  • Second-Degree Assault

Court Appearance and License Suspension

During a court appearance on Monday afternoon, Carpenter’s attorney entered a plea of not guilty on her behalf. The judge granted the state’s request to suspend Carpenter’s driver’s license pending the resolution of the case. Her next court date is scheduled for April 14th.

Fortunately, police reported that none of the pedestrians struck sustained life-threatening injuries. This incident highlights the dangers of impaired driving and the potential consequences of such actions.
