Current Conditions and Forecast
While not currently anticipated to be a widespread severe weather outbreak, the primary concern remains damaging winds. However, the possibility of hail up to 1 inch in diameter and an isolated, weak tornado cannot be ruled out. The overall tornado risk is considered very low. The Storm Prediction Center (SPC) has placed Northwest Arkansas (NWA) in a Slight Risk category, while most of the River Valley is under a Marginal Risk.
In addition to strong winds, there is a potential for localized flash flooding, particularly along and south of I-40. The 40/29 Weather Team is diligently monitoring these conditions.
Rainfall Expectations
Fortunately, alongside the severe weather potential, this system is expected to deliver much-needed rainfall. Total rainfall amounts are projected to be between 1 and 2 inches for most areas, with some locations in the River Valley potentially receiving 3 to 4 inches – where the heaviest precipitation is expected. This rain will likely impact Saturday morning plans.
Looking Ahead: Easter Weekend Forecast
The good news is that conditions are expected to improve throughout the Easter weekend. Dry conditions should emerge in NWA by mid to late Saturday morning, and in the River Valley by late morning or early afternoon. Saturday afternoon is currently forecast to be dry, though cooler. Sunday promises beautiful, sunny weather, although it may be a bit chilly and muddy for early Easter egg hunts. Expect mild temperatures for Easter Sunday afternoon!
