Expanding Faith: The Mormon Church Announces New Temple Dates and Locations Worldwide
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, often referred to as the Mormon church, continues to expand its global spiritual footprint. In a recent announcement, the First Presidency has revealed key dates and locations for several new temples, underscoring the church’s commitment to bringing sacred ordinances closer to its growing membership across the globe.
From the vibrant landscapes of Mexico and Brazil to the heart of the United States, these new houses of worship are designed to be beacons of peace and spiritual refuge.
San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple: A Gateway to Spiritual Peace
Mexico is seeing a significant increase in spiritual infrastructure, with the San Luis Potosí Mexico Temple becoming a focal point for the region. This temple is part of a vast network of 27 temples that are either operating, under construction, or announced within the country.

Strengthening Faith in South America: The Santos Brazil Temple
Brazil remains one of the most active hubs for the Mormon church. The upcoming Santos Brazil Temple represents another step in providing spiritual support to the more than 1.5 million members living in Brazil.
The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, August 1, 2026, with Elder Ronald M. Barcellos of the Brazil Area Presidency presiding. This addition joins a growing list of dedicated temples in cities like São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, and Brasília, further strengthening the faith of the 2,000+ congregations across the country.
Growth in the United States: Idaho and South Carolina
The expansion also continues within the US, with two new temples announced by President Russell M. Nelson to better serve local communities.
Caldwell Idaho Temple
Idaho is a stronghold for the faith, with over 480,000 members. The new Caldwell temple will be situated on a 19.2-acre site at the southwest corner of W Orchard Ave. and S. Florida Ave. The facility is planned as a massive 82,000-square-foot multistory complex, including a meetinghouse and ancillary buildings.
Greenville South Carolina Temple
In South Carolina, the church is expanding its presence with the Greenville temple. Located on an 8.8-acre site at the intersection of Independence Boulevard/Ponders Road and Roper Mountain Road, this 18,850-square-foot single-story temple will be the second in the state, joining the Columbia South Carolina Temple dedicated in 1999.
The Purpose of Temples in the Mormon Church
For members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, temples are far more than just buildings; they are the holiest places on earth. Members visit these sacred spaces to:
- Experience the love and peace of God.
- Deepen their understanding of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
- Make sacred covenants (promises) with God and their spouses.
- Unite families eternally through sacred ordinances.
President Russell M. Nelson emphasized the importance of this expansion, stating that “regular worship in the house of the Lord increases our capacity for both virtue and charity,” helping members prepare for the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.
As these new temples open their doors, they offer not only a place of worship for members but a symbol of hope and stability for the surrounding communities.
