DC Weather: Brace Yourself for a Dramatic Change
Washington D.C. residents have enjoyed a recent stretch of unseasonably warm weather, even prompting the cherry blossoms to reach Stage 1! However, a significant shift is on the horizon. After days of record-breaking temperatures in the mid-80s, prepare for a dramatic cooldown and the possibility of wintry precipitation. Here’s what you need to know about the DC weather forecast.
What’s Happening Now?
The severe weather threat for Wednesday night has passed, but the change is coming quickly. Tonight, expect showers and storms early, transitioning to partly cloudy skies. Winds will be from the Southwest at 10-15 mph, with a low near 50°F.
Thursday: Rain, Snow, and a Rapid Temperature Drop
Thursday morning will bring rain showers, potentially mixing with wet snow in the afternoon. While accumulation is unlikely due to surface temperatures, the real story is the rapid temperature drop. Between 6 a.m. and 9 a.m., temperatures will plummet from the 50s into the 30s and 40s. Gusty northwest winds of 10-20 mph, with gusts up to 35 mph, will make it feel even colder, with wind chills in the 20s and 30s. The high for Thursday will be near 40°F.
Friday & The Weekend: Lingering Winds, Improving Conditions
Friday will offer some sunshine and clouds, but the gusty winds will persist, with gusts up to 35 mph. Temperatures will be more seasonable, reaching a high of 54°F. The weekend looks slightly better. Saturday will be sunny and cloudy with near-average temperatures, but breezy. Thankfully, the winds will subside on Sunday, though we can expect more cloud cover.
Looking Ahead: Another Cold Front Next Week
Don’t get too comfortable! Another cold front is expected to move through next Monday, dropping high temperatures into the 40s for both Tuesday and Wednesday. This continues a pattern of fluctuating temperatures, a common characteristic of spring in the nation’s capital.
