Boban’s Struggle: A Man’s Desperate Plea for Help in Serbia
Recently, Boban Delčev, born in 1973 in Pirot, Serbia, reached out to our editorial team. We initially began an interview with him, but paused as we suggested he connect with relevant officials at the City Administration and the Director of the Social Work Center. Miloš Colić kindly assisted us in this process, introducing Delčev to the Center’s Director.
During our conversation, Boban expressed a dire warning: if his situation wasn’t understood and efforts weren’t made to find him employment, he would begin a hunger and thirst strike starting Monday, April 6th. Tragically, today, April 6th, Boban received his termination notice and was evicted from his rented accommodation.
Several days have passed since our initial conversation. We held onto hope that Boban Delčev would receive a positive response and wouldn’t resort to a strike that jeopardizes his life. This morning, Boban contacted us to inform us he was protesting in front of the City Administration. He has commenced his strike, refusing food, water, and even his necessary medication.
In a moment of confusion during our interview, Boban mistakenly addressed me as a journalist from RTS (Radio Television of Serbia). I sincerely hope that a reporter from RTS, or a member of the local Pirot media, will reach out to Boban and inquire about his well-being.
Response from the Social Work Center
Our journalist, Sonja Ćirić, spoke with Aleksa Ćirić, the Director of the Social Work Center. Director Ćirić promised a written response after receiving a formal written request. We are awaiting that response.
Director Aleksa Ćirić’s Statement (translated):
[Awaiting official statement from the Social Work Center. This section will be updated as soon as the written response is received.]
This is a developing story, and we will continue to provide updates as they become available.
