EasyJet Flight Diverted at Paris Orly Due to Fireworks

According to a police source who spoke with AFP, the flight, arriving from Venice, Italy, was preparing to land when the pilot observed smoke clouds. The pilot responded by increasing speed and altitude. After circling, the avion was able to land safely on a different runway.
EasyJet confirmed the incident, stating: “EasyJet can confirm that the commander of flight EJU4874 between Venice and Paris-Orly on April 5th chose to perform a routine go-around upon arrival at Orly due to the suspected presence of fireworks near the runway.”

The airline emphasized the high level of training its pilots receive. “EasyJet pilots are highly qualified to perform go-arounds as a precaution and in accordance with our procedures, and the flight subsequently landed normally. Initial investigations suggest the fireworks originated from the towns of Ablon-sur-Seine and Villeneuve-le-Roi, located near the airport in the southern suburbs of Paris. A source close to the investigation indicated the vehicle appeared to be part of a wedding procession, and the fireworks were likely unauthorized celebratory discharges.
As of Monday afternoon, no arrests had been made, making it unclear whether the fireworks were intentionally aimed at the avion or the airport. Authorities are continuing to investigate the incident.
