Aurora Public Schools Lockdown: A Detailed Report

AURORA, Neb. – On Monday, October 28, 2024, Aurora Public Schools, including Aurora High School and Aurora Middle School, were placed on lockdown following a reported threat. This incident prompted a swift response from the Aurora Police Department and local authorities.

Timeline of Events

At approximately 10:15 a.m., the Aurora Police Department received a report concerning a potential active threat at Aurora High School. School administration was immediately alerted by law enforcement and initiated lockdown procedures. As a precautionary measure, Aurora Middle School was also placed into lockdown shortly thereafter.

Upon arrival, law enforcement officials, with the assistance of school administrative staff, secured and thoroughly searched both school buildings. This included a comprehensive sweep of common areas, classrooms, and all other accessible rooms.

No Threat Found

Aurora Police Chief Paul Graham confirmed that officers did not identify or locate any credible threat within either school during the extensive search. After completing the searches, authorities determined the buildings were safe and ready to resume normal operations. The lockdown was lifted around 12:34 p.m.

Student Support and Debriefing

Following the all-clear, students from Aurora High School were gathered in the gymnasium for a debriefing session. School officials provided information about the incident and ensured the well-being of all students. A similar debriefing was conducted for students at Aurora Middle School.

Collaboration and Investigation

The Aurora Police Department was supported by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department and the Nebraska State Patrol during the incident. Law enforcement cleared the scene at approximately 1:00 p.m. The investigation remains ongoing.

Aurora Superintendent Jody Phillips praised the staff and students for their calm and composed response, highlighting their adherence to Standard Response Protocols for lockdown situations.
