Major Police Operation: 13 Youth Detained Following Armed Assault in Brossard
In a decisive move to curb youth violence, the Service de police de l’agglomération de Longueuil (SPAL) has arrested thirteen minors in connection with a violent armed assault that took place on April 18 near the popular Quartier DIX30 area in Brossard.
The operation, which involved twelve separate searches, targeted a group of young men aged 15 and 16. According to official reports, four of the detainees are 15 years old, while the remaining nine are 16. This crackdown follows the circulation of a disturbing video showing a large group of youths engaged in a brutal brawl, sparking concerns over public safety in the region.
Legal Consequences and the Danger of ‘Bystander Complicity’
Inspector Gino Iannone of the SPAL clarified that the arrests are not limited to those who physically participated in the fight. The authorities have laid three primary charges against the suspects:

- Complicity: A critical charge targeting those who aided or encouraged the crime.
One of the most striking aspects of this investigation is the warning issued to those who filmed the event. Inspector Iannone emphasized that individuals who remain on the scene to record a violent aggression without attempting to stop it or notify authorities may be charged with complicity.
“People who stay on site, film, and do not intervene to end this type of aggression can also be accused of complicity,” stated Inspector Gino Iannone.
Ongoing Investigation and Call for Witnesses
The SPAL has indicated that this is part of a broader effort to maintain order, suggesting that some of the arrested minors may be linked to other criminal events in the area. The police are currently leveraging digital evidence and witness testimonies to build their case.
