Ford Vehicle Recall Canada: Potential Fire Hazard Affects Hundreds of Thousands of Vehicles
Transport Canada has announced a significant recall impacting numerous Ford and Lincoln models, some dating back to 2013. The recall stems from a potential coolant leak in the engine block heater, which could lead to electrical short circuits and a serious fire risk.
What Vehicles Are Affected?
The recall affects over 332,000 vehicles manufactured by Ford. Two separate recall notices (2026-004 and 2026-005) detail the issue. Specifically, vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine are affected by notice 2026-004. Recall 2026-005 replaces a previous recall (2025-554), meaning vehicles already repaired under the prior recall do not require further action.
The following Ford and Lincoln models are included in the recall:
- Ford Escape
- Ford Explorer
- Lincoln MKC
- Lincoln MKX
- Ford Edge
- Other models with a 2.0L engine (check your VIN)
The Risk: Coolant Leaks and Potential Fires
Transport Canada warns that a coolant leak from the engine block heater can cause a short circuit when the heater is plugged in. This short circuit presents a significant fire hazard. The agency strongly advises owners to discontinue use of the engine block heater until the vehicle has been inspected and repaired by a Ford dealership.
What Should You Do?
Ford will be notifying affected vehicle owners by mail. However, it’s recommended that owners proactively check their Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) on the Transport Canada recall website to determine if their vehicle is included in the recall. You can also contact your local Ford dealership with your VIN for verification.
Important: Until the repair is completed, do not use your engine block heater. This is a crucial safety precaution to mitigate the risk of fire.
