Manaus City Government Invests in Infrastructure: A Focus on Betânia Neighborhood
The Manaus city government, through the Municipal Secretariat of Infrastructure (Seminf), continues to transform the urban landscape of the capital city. Recent works extend beyond surface-level improvements, addressing fundamental infrastructure needs. On Monday, April 6th, 2026, teams made significant progress in revitalizing Piauí Street in the Betânia neighborhood, South Zone, enhancing safety, structure, and quality of life for residents.
Addressing Drainage Issues for a Flood-Resilient Community
The project began with a crucial foundation: the recovery of the deep drainage network along approximately 150 meters of the street. Crews replaced damaged pipes and completed the piping ring, ensuring more efficient stormwater runoff and preventing flooding – a recurring problem that directly impacts the daily lives of residents. Effective drainage is paramount to the long-term success of any infrastructure project, and Manaus is prioritizing this critical aspect.
From Drainage to Durable Roads: A Complete Revitalization
With the drainage system restructured, the project is entering its final phase: asphalt restoration. This will return a fully revitalized, safer, and more suitable street to the community for both vehicle and pedestrian traffic. This holistic approach ensures a lasting solution, rather than a temporary fix.
According to Efrain Aragão, Subsecretary of Basic Services, integrated action is essential for achieving durable results. “Our work begins underground, with drainage, because that’s what guarantees the problem won’t return. Then, we move on to the asphalt, delivering a complete road to the population. Here in the Betânia neighborhood, we are definitively resolving the issue, bringing more safety, tranquility, and quality of life to residents,” Aragão stated.
More Than Just Roads: Improving Quality of Life in Manaus
This intervention represents more than just infrastructure improvement; it signifies the end of disruptions caused by flooding, increased mobility, and the appreciation of the area, directly impacting the daily lives of those who live and travel through the neighborhood. Investing in infrastructure is an investment in the community’s well-being.
The Manaus city government continues to implement works in all zones of the city, reinforcing its commitment to more efficient, durable infrastructure capable of guaranteeing dignity and well-being for the population.
