Women’s World Curling Championship 2026: Standings and Highlights
The BKT World Women’s Curling Championship 2026 in Calgary is delivering thrilling action! As of Monday, March 17th, 2026, the competition is heating up with several teams securing their first victories and others solidifying their positions at the top of the leaderboard. Here’s a recap of the day’s key results and the current women’s world curling standings.
Monday’s Key Matchups
Monday morning’s session saw Norway edge out Sweden in a close 9-7 contest, while the United States dominated Australia with a 7-2 win. These results are significant as they mean every one of the thirteen participating teams has now registered at least one win in the tournament.
Norway vs. Sweden: A Comeback Victory
The match between Sweden and Norway was a rollercoaster. Sweden initially took a commanding 5-1 lead after three ends. However, Norway demonstrated resilience, battling back to tie the game at 7-7 after nine ends. In a dramatic tenth end, Norwegian skip Torild Bjoernstad executed a precise hit, removing two Swedish stones and leaving two of her own counting, securing a 9-7 victory.
“I’m really glad we finally made it. We’ve been struggling, so I’m really happy,” Bjoernstad shared after the game. She added, with confidence, “I was quite confident about that last stone.” Unfortunately, Norway later faced a setback, losing to Korea 8-7 in the subsequent session.
United States vs. Australia: A Decisive Win
The United States showcased their strength against Australia, blanking the first two ends before opening the scoring with a three-point end in the third. By the sixth end, the Americans led 3-1. A brilliant draw by US skip Delaney Strouse in the sixth end added three more points, extending their lead to 6-1. The United States ultimately secured a convincing 7-2 victory.
“It was nice to get a win, getting into this has been challenging. This will help to give us a little bit of confidence going forward,” said American skip Delaney Strouse. She also commented on the event itself, stating, “This has been amazing. There’s a lot to take in from your first women’s worlds — it’s not like anything else. We really jumped in at the deep end — playing Canada in our first game. The crowd has been amazing.” The Americans then faced Korea in the evening session, falling short in an extra end with a 5-7 loss.
Canada Remains Unbeaten
Canada continued their impressive run, defeating a Danish team playing with only three players (due to illness) by 9-6. Despite a strong effort from Danish skip Madeleine Dupont, who scored two points in the fourth end to take a 4-3 lead, Canada maintained their composure and secured the win, remaining the only unbeaten team in the tournament.
“I knew it was going to be a great game. We’ve played them before; I know this is a new line-up, but they played phenomenal and Madeleine made some really great shots. It’s not like we played bad; we played really well, too. It’s good to have games like that that test you,” said Canadian skip Kerri Einarson.
Turkiye and Switzerland Rise in the Rankings
Earlier in the day, Japan and Turkiye, both previously tied with Canada for the lead, clashed in a highly anticipated match. Turkiye dominated, building a 7-2 lead by the fifth end and ultimately winning 9-4. This victory keeps Turkiye undefeated and tied with Canada at the top of the women’s world curling standings. “We are very happy about our situation right now. Our skip is very confident and a very strong player, and we always trust her!” exclaimed Turkiye’s third player Oznur Polat.
Switzerland also had a successful day, defeating Scotland 9-5 in the morning and then overcoming Turkiye 8-5 in the evening. Their skip, Xenia Schwaller, drew her final stone onto the button in the fourth end to establish a 4-2 lead. This result places Switzerland alongside Turkiye in second place.
Other Notable Results
Scotland bounced back from their morning loss to Switzerland with an 11-7 win over Denmark, aided by a five-point end scored by skip Fay Henderson.
