Val Sweeting Announces Move to Kayla MacMillan’s Team
The curling landscape has shifted with a significant roster change! Eight-time Grand Slam title winner Val Sweeting has officially joined forces with the team led by Kayla MacMillan. The Victoria-based club announced the exciting news on social media Sunday, sending ripples through the curling community.
A Decorated Career
Sweeting brings a wealth of experience and a winning pedigree to MacMillan’s lineup. For eight seasons, she was a key player as third on Kerri Einarson’s team, based out of Gimli, Manitoba. Her contributions were instrumental in Einarson’s success, including a remarkable fifth Scotties Tournament of Hearts title secured in February. The team also earned a silver medal at the recent World Women’s Curling Championship, adding to Sweeting’s impressive collection of accolades.
Prior to her time with Einarson, Sweeting showcased her skills as a skip, capturing three Grand Slam of Curling titles. She further bolstered her resume with five more Grand Slam victories alongside Einarson. Her consistent performance and strategic prowess have established her as one of the top curlers in Canada.
MacMillan’s Team Rebuild
MacMillan, supported by second Lindsay Dubue and lead Lauren Lenentine, was looking to strengthen her team after parting ways with third Brittany Tran and alternate Sarah Loken last week. The addition of Sweeting is a clear indication of their ambition to contend for top honors.
Einarson’s Roster Adjustments
The changes aren’t limited to MacMillan’s team. Kerri Einarson’s roster is also undergoing a transformation. Shannon Birchard will step up to the third position, while Karlee Burgess moves to second. Jocelyn Peterman joins the team as lead and will also take on vice skip duties. These adjustments demonstrate Einarson’s commitment to maintaining a competitive edge.
This move marks an exciting new chapter for both Sweeting and MacMillan, and curling fans eagerly anticipate seeing their combined skills on the ice. The upcoming season promises to be filled with thrilling competition as these teams vie for championship titles.
