RDC vs Jamaica: Lumumba Vea Will Miss Crucial World Cup Qualifier

DR Congo’s Star Supporter Faces Travel Hurdles Ahead of Jamaica Clash

Michel Kuka Mboladinga, affectionately known as Lumumba Vea, the breakout star fan of the recent Africa Cup of Nations (CAN), will be forced to watch the Democratic Republic of Congo’s (DRC) crucial World Cup qualifying match against Jamaica from his television. The Leopards, coached by Sébastien Desabre, will have to compete without the enthusiastic presence of their most recognizable supporter as they vie for a coveted spot in the 2026 World Cup.

Visa Issues Prevent Lumumba Vea’s Trip to Mexico

Lumumba Vea announced on his X (formerly Twitter) account that he was unable to secure a visa in time to travel to Mexico, where the match will be held. Despite a frantic effort involving trips to Kenya and Ethiopia, and assistance from the Minister of Sports, Didier Budimbu, the necessary travel documents couldn’t be obtained.

The dedicated fan recounted his desperate attempts to join the team: “I was urgently contacted by an acquaintance who suggested I travel to Ethiopia to try for an express visa. I left Kinshasa around 5 PM and spent the night in Addis Ababa, where procedures were initiated. Unfortunately, even in an emergency situation, obtaining an express visa requires at least one day of processing, and under specific conditions.”

Logistical Challenges Complicate Matters

Considering the importance of accompanying the Leopards and the extensive travel time to Mexico – ranging from 18 to 22 hours with one layover, and up to 30 hours with two – Vea concluded that arriving in time to fulfill his role was impossible. The logistical complexities of the journey, combined with the visa processing time, proved insurmountable.

Unwavering Support From Afar

Despite the disappointment, Lumumba Vea remains a staunch supporter of the national team. “Whether near or far, we remain united behind our Leopards,” he stated, assuring fans that he will be cheering on the “ambassadors” of his country from a distance. This match against Jamaica is pivotal for the DRC’s World Cup qualification campaign, and the team will undoubtedly feel the absence of their most passionate fan.
