Nate Ament Injury Update: Tennessee Basketball Star Suffers Lower Body Injury
Tennessee Volunteers freshman sensation, Nate Ament, left the court during the team’s matchup against the Alabama Crimson Tide after sustaining a lower body injury in the first half. The incident occurred with 7:42 remaining in the first half, while Tennessee held a 20-16 lead.
The injury happened as Ament attempted to secure a loose ball. An Alabama player inadvertently fell on his right leg, causing it to bend awkwardly. Ament initially remained on the ground before walking off the court under his own power, immediately heading towards the Tennessee locker room. He was later seen attempting to put weight on the injured leg by taking small jumps.
According to a UT spokesperson, Ament is currently being evaluated for a right leg injury. The severity of the injury remains unknown at this time.
Ament’s Performance and Impact
Prior to the injury, Ament had been struggling offensively, missing his first four field goal attempts, including a relatively open layup. He had managed to grab three rebounds in eight minutes of play.
Ament is a crucial component of the Volunteers’ success, currently ranking as Tennessee’s second-leading scorer this season, averaging an impressive 17.9 points per game. He boasts a field goal percentage of 41.7% and a three-point shooting percentage of 32.8%. Beyond scoring, Ament also leads the team in rebounding with 6.5 rebounds per game and contributes 2.5 assists per game.
His performance has been even more pronounced in SEC play, where he’s averaging 20.1 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Fans will remember his phenomenal performance in the Vols’ recent win at Alabama last month, where he tallied 29 points, seven rebounds, and three assists in a 79-73 victory.
Looking Ahead
The injury to Nate Ament is a significant blow to the Tennessee Volunteers. His absence will undoubtedly be felt on both ends of the court. The team will need to rally and find ways to compensate for his contributions. We will continue to update this story as more details regarding his injury become available.
