Mikaël Kingsbury Claims Olympic Gold in Inaugural Dual Moguls Event

Mikaël Kingsbury has added another glittering achievement to his already illustrious career, securing gold in the men’s dual moguls at Milano Cortina 2026. This victory marks his second medal of the Games and the fifth Olympic medal of his career. Notably, this event was the very first men’s dual moguls competition to be held at the Olympic Winter Games, making Kingsbury’s win even more historic.

What is Dual Moguls?

Dual moguls is a thrilling head-to-head competition where skiers battle it out on a mogul course. While speed is a factor, it’s not the sole determinant of success. Judges meticulously evaluate the quality of turns and aerial maneuvers, meaning a technically superior run can triumph over sheer velocity. It’s a test of skill, precision, and courage.

Kingsbury’s Path to Gold

Kingsbury’s journey to the top was dominant. He confidently navigated his way through the 1/16 and 1/8 finals. His quarterfinal advancement was secured when his opponent, Jung Daeyoon of South Korea, unfortunately couldn’t complete his run. The semifinal saw Kingsbury face Takuya Shimakawa of Japan, who had previously upset the 2022 Olympic champion, Walter Wallberg of Sweden. Kingsbury made quick work of this challenge as well, capitalizing on Shimakawa’s errors.

A Rivalry Renewed: Kingsbury vs. Horishima

The gold medal final pitted Kingsbury against his longtime friend and fellow competitor, Ikuma Horishima of Japan. Both athletes are also proud fathers, adding another layer to their friendly rivalry. Kingsbury’s expertise in dual moguls is well-documented – he’s claimed five of his nine World Championship titles in this discipline. Despite this impressive record, this was his first dual moguls competition of the season, making his victory all the more remarkable.

Kingsbury’s consistent excellence and strategic approach have cemented his status as the most dominant moguls skier in history. His gold medal at PyeongChang 2018 completed his trophy case, and now, this latest triumph at Milano Cortina 2026 further solidifies his legacy.
