LPGA Leaderboard: Kim Takes Early Lead at HSBC Women’s World Championship
SINGAPORE (AP) – February 26, 2026 – The HSBC Women’s World Championship kicked off today at the Sentosa Golf Club’s Tanjong course, and American Auston Kim has surged to the top of the LPGA leaderboard with an impressive opening round of 66. Kim birdied two of her final three holes to secure a one-stroke lead over China’s Yan Liu.
While Kim shines, top-ranked Jeeno Thitikul experienced a challenging start, carding a 1-over 73, leaving her seven strokes behind the leader. Thitikul, fresh off a victory in her native Thailand last week, is one of nine players ranked in the top 10 competing in this prestigious Singapore event.
Tight Competition on the LPGA Tour
Five players are tied for third place with scores of 68, including No. 12-ranked Haeran Ryu. Defending champion Lydia Ko posted a 70, alongside Canadian Brooke Henderson of Smiths Falls, Ontario. Henderson’s round featured a balanced mix of five birdies and three bogeys, resulting in a solid two-under performance.
“When I think about my game and myself as a golfer since last year … I mean it obviously feels great to score well. But I just I feel like I can handle things a lot better and I’ve been talking with my mental coach, as well,” Kim shared after her round. “There are a lot of things that I’ve changed and a lot of things I feel like I’m doing better. Today was a testament to what we’ve been working on, and I’m working hard on what I can control.”
Other notable players, including third-ranked Charley Hull and fourth-ranked Minjee Lee, also carded 72s, positioning them within striking distance. Notably absent from the competition is No. 2-ranked Nelly Korda.
