Kings vs Bruins: A Familiar Face on the Bench
Tonight at TD Garden, the Boston Bruins will host the Los Angeles Kings in a 7 p.m. puck drop, marking the second and final regular-season meeting between these two NHL franchises. The game carries a particular weight for Bruins head coach Marco Sturm, who previously spent several years within the Kings organization.
Sturm’s Return to Face Former Colleagues
From 2018 to 2022, Sturm served as an assistant coach for the Kings, and later took the helm as head coach of the Ontario Reign, the Kings’ AHL affiliate, until 2025. Reflecting on his time in Los Angeles, Sturm shared, “It’s a good group. It’s a very good organization. I had a good time there.” His history with the Kings adds an interesting layer to tonight’s contest.
Bruins Look to Bounce Back
The Bruins are aiming to rebound after a tough 5-4 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday. Despite the defeat, Sturm remains optimistic. “It was not a terrible game; it was a bad ending, but we did a lot of good things. For 40 minutes, we played pretty good hockey. Unfortunately, we made too many mistakes, and the third cost us the game,” he explained. The team used a day off to analyze the game and refocus for tonight’s challenge.
Zacha’s Hot Streak Fuels Bruins Offense
Leading the charge for Boston is Pavel Zacha, who recently notched his second hat trick of the season. He’s currently on a five-game point streak, with four goals and four assists in that span. Zacha continues to anchor the second line alongside Casey Mittelstadt and Viktor Arvidsson, a trio that has consistently been the Bruins’ most productive 5-on-5 unit.
Arvidsson on Zacha and Line Chemistry
“Pav has been great. Plays every situation. Just contributing all over the ice. He’s having a great year, and we have to keep it going down the stretch,” Arvidsson stated. He added, “I think we just enjoy playing with each other and having fun. We all three work really hard, and we try to make plays for each other. I think that has been key. And personally, I love playing in the games where it is tight and we’ve got to win. It’s fun.”
Playoff Push: Bruins Hold Second Wild Card Spot
With 76 points, the Bruins currently hold the second wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference. They’re riding a 12-game winning streak at TD Garden and are determined to maintain their home ice advantage. “The standings are tight, and we’ve got to be ready to go,” Arvidsson emphasized. “We’ve been good at home, so have to keep that going and stick to our game plan and structure.”
