Jackson LaCombe and Ducks Players Shine at the 2026 Winter Olympics

The 2026 Winter Olympics in Milano Cortina have concluded, delivering a mix of thrilling moments and challenging contests. The men’s ice hockey tournament, a premier event, was no exception. Five members of the Anaheim Ducks organization – Lukas Dostal, Radko Gudas, Damian Clara, Mikael Granlund, and Jackson LaCombe – represented their countries, and two are returning to Orange County with medals.

Ducks at the Winter Olympics: A Recap

Lukas Dostal: A Strong Performance for Czechia

If Czechia was to medal, it hinged on a stellar performance from goaltender Lukas Dostal. While the roster lacked the firepower of nations like the US, Canada, Finland, and Sweden, Dostal delivered a solid performance, mirroring his 2025-26 season with the Ducks. He showcased his trademark skills – masterful angles, puck tracking, and calm composure – but ultimately couldn’t steal a game against top contenders.

Facing the tournament favorite Canada twice, Dostal reflected on the experience: “You go through it all the time, suddenly you see Makar, McDavid, MacKinnon, all on the same ice, playing against you. It’s a big honor.” He finished with a 1-3-0 record, an .886 save percentage, and 117 saves on 132 shots.

Radko Gudas: Physicality and Resilience for Czechia

Radko Gudas brought his signature physicality to the ice, aiming to set a heavy tone for Czechia. While his performance had its ups and downs, he demonstrated moments of brilliance, eliminating the front of the crease and disrupting opposing attacks. He finished the tournament with an assist, nine shots on goal, and four penalty minutes.

Damian Clara: Italy’s Breakout Star

Damian Clara emerged as a standout performer for the host nation, Italy. Facing significant underdogs in every game, Clara single-handedly kept Italy competitive, saving 133 of 146 shots for a .911 save percentage. His size (6-foot-7, 214 pounds) and athleticism were on full display, making him a difficult opponent for attackers. While needing refinement in game management and puck skills, Clara’s performance was unforgettable.

Mikael Granlund: Captaincy and Bronze for Finland

With Aleksander Barkov sidelined, Ducks forward Mikael Granlund captained Finland. The team relied on a contained defensive system and counterattacks. Granlund played a complementary role, displaying his hockey IQ and setting up scoring opportunities. Finland secured the bronze medal, with Granlund contributing three points (2-1=3) in six games.

Jackson LaCombe: A Gold Medal Experience

Jackson LaCombe was a late addition to the US roster due to an injury. Although he didn’t see game action, he returns to Orange County with a gold medal, an invaluable experience, and motivation for the 2030 games. This experience will undoubtedly fuel his development and future contributions to the Ducks.

Looking Ahead

The 2026 Winter Olympics showcased the talent within the Anaheim Ducks organization. From Dostal’s strong goaltending to Clara’s breakout performance and Jackson LaCombe’s gold medal experience, these players have gained valuable experience that will benefit the Ducks in the seasons to come.
