Giants Offensive Coordinator Search: Robert Prince Emerges as Potential Candidate
Despite the recent severe weather impacting the tri-state area, New York Giants head coach John Harbaugh is fully focused on assembling a strong coaching staff. The search for an offensive coordinator is a top priority, and the team has already interviewed several candidates. The latest name to emerge is Robert Prince, currently the receivers coach for the Miami Dolphins.
A Deep Dive into Robert Prince’s Coaching Career
Robert Prince, 60, brings a wealth of experience to the table, spanning both the college and professional levels. His coaching journey began in 1989 as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Humboldt State. He honed his offensive coordination skills at Fort Lewis (1994-1995) and Portland State (1999-2000), also serving as quarterbacks coach during those tenures.
Prince transitioned to the NFL in 2004 with the Atlanta Falcons, initially as an offensive assistant, before taking on roles coaching running backs and tight ends. He later served as the Falcons’ quarterbacks coach in 2006. His NFL career continued with stints at the Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks before returning to the college ranks with Colorado and Boise State, where he was offensive coordinator from 2012-2013.
He rejoined the NFL with the Detroit Lions in 2014, even serving as the interim head coach in 2020 during a COVID-19 outbreak within the coaching staff. Subsequent stops included the Houston Texans, Dallas Cowboys, and most recently, the Dolphins.
Prince’s Track Record of Success
Throughout his career, Prince has demonstrated a knack for developing receiving talent. Notably, he mentored Brandin Cooks during his time with the Texans, helping him achieve a career-high 90 receptions for 1,037 yards and six touchdowns. His time with the Lions saw the receiving corps rank impressively – fourth in the NFL in receiving yards (19,749), seventh in receptions (1,484), and seventh in receiving touchdowns (123). During his tenure, Kenny Golladay and Golden Tate became the sixth duo in Lions history to both surpass 1,000 receiving yards in a single season (2014). The Giants’ Offensive Coordinator Landscape
While Todd Monken, Harbaugh’s former offensive coordinator in Baltimore, remains a potential candidate, he is also a contender for the Cleveland Browns head coaching position. Even if Prince doesn’t land the offensive coordinator role, his extensive experience with receivers makes him a strong candidate for the team’s receivers coach position.
