Fitzpatrick Family Celebrates Double Victory on the DP World Tour and PGA Tour
The Fitzpatrick family is enjoying a moment of incredible success in the world of golf. Alex Fitzpatrick clinched his first DP World Tour title at the Hero Indian Open, just a week after his older brother, Matt, secured a victory on the PGA Tour at the Valspar Championship. This historic achievement marks the first time brothers have won on both tours in back-to-back weeks.
Dramatic Turnaround at the Hero Indian Open
Alex Fitzpatrick’s victory wasn’t without its challenges. He began the final round four shots behind defending champion Eugenio Chacarra, and that gap widened to six after the first five holes. However, a remarkable turnaround ensued as Fitzpatrick found his rhythm, carding eight birdies in twelve holes. This surge in form coincided with a collapse from Chacarra, who struggled with bogeys throughout the day.
Fitzpatrick took the lead at the 15th hole, and despite a double bogey on the 18th, he finished with a three-under 69, securing a nine-under total and the championship title. This win came in his 87th DP World Tour start and on a particularly demanding back nine.
Brotherly Success and Future Plans
“I will see my mum and dad [on Monday] and we are going to meet my brother in Florida,” Alex Fitzpatrick shared with the DP World Tour. “It has been a good few weeks for the Fitzpatricks.” He celebrated modestly, stating his plans to enjoy a Coca-Cola and connect with friends and family.
Fitzpatrick acknowledged the hard work and support that led to this moment, expressing his overwhelming joy. “At no point today [did I think I had the win],” he admitted, highlighting the mental fortitude required to compete at this level. “I am mentally exhausted. It’s a challenge out here and I am happy to come out on top.”
Chacarra’s Struggles and Other Contenders
Eugenio Chacarra’s defense of his title faltered with a three-over 75, leaving him in second place at seven under. England’s Andy Sullivan, France’s Ugo Coussaud, and South Africa’s M. J. Daffue shared third place at five under par.
