Streamed: The Most Watched Marvel Show on Disney+ Will Surprise You
Marvel Studios has become synonymous with blockbuster success in the 21st century. Films like Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, and Black Panther weren’t just movies; they were global cultural phenomena, shattering box office records and proving the power of interconnected storytelling. While replicating the impact of the ‘Infinity Saga’ is a constant goal, with upcoming projects like Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday, and Avengers: Secret Wars aiming for similar heights, Marvel’s reach extends far beyond the big screen.
In 2021, Marvel expanded its universe to the streaming world with Disney+. Series like WandaVision and Loki quickly garnered massive fanbases as the Multiverse Saga unfolded. More recently, X-Men ’97 captivated audiences with its faithful recreation of the beloved animated series. Even projects with a lower profile, like Wonder Man, have found success, earning critical acclaim for their unique concepts and consistent quality.
The Streaming Numbers Are In
But according to recent data from The Hollywood Reporter, the two most streamed Marvel titles on Disney+ aren’t the ones you might expect. Surprisingly, Avengers: Endgame and Spidey and his Amazing Friends top the charts. This is remarkable for several reasons.
At a runtime of three hours, Avengers: Endgame outpaces every other Marvel series on Disney+, even the lengthy 4-hour-and-30-minute WandaVision. However, the biggest shock is that Spidey and his Amazing Friends dominates the entire Marvel Disney+ library in terms of streamed minutes, surpassing every single MCU project ever released.
Why Spidey and His Amazing Friends?
Spidey and his Amazing Friends is specifically designed for preschool audiences. It reimagines Spider-Man’s world, making it accessible and engaging for young children. This demographic is incredibly active when it comes to at-home viewing, often re-watching their favorite content repeatedly. In fact, Nielsen data shows that Moana was the most streamed movie on Disney+ in both 2023 and 2024, accumulating over 13 billion viewing minutes in 2024 and becoming the most-streamed film since the platform began tracking in 2020.
While geared towards preschoolers, the cultural impact of Spidey and his Amazing Friends shouldn’t be underestimated. For many children born in the early 2020s, this vibrant, music-filled series is their first introduction to the Marvel Universe, long before they encounter comics or live-action films. This early exposure will undoubtedly shape their understanding of Spider-Man and his world when they eventually explore more mature Marvel content.
A Foundational Show
Naturally, Spidey and his Amazing Friends isn’t strictly canon, nor does it attempt to be. Characterizations are simplified, and even names are altered (Miles Morales is known as “Spin”). However, its sincerity and accessibility make it a foundational show for a new generation of Marvel fans.
