Passez au Salon Cancellation: Why the Hit Show Won’t Return

Passez au Salon: A Final Farewell

Just before the broadcast of the season two finale of Passez au Salon this Wednesday, QMI Agency learned that the comedy will not be returning to TVA next year. The episode title, “Un mariage et un enterrement” (A Wedding and a Funeral), proved eerily prescient given the circumstances surrounding this series created by and starring Jean-Michel Anctil and Louis-Philippe Dandenault.

“TVA regrets to announce that Passez au Salon will not return for a further season,” the network stated in a note obtained by QMI Agency. Set in a regional funeral home, this show is the latest production to fall victim to the challenging budgetary context facing private television.

Budget Cuts Force Cancellation

The cancellation echoes the disappointment felt by viewers last year when Sorcières (Witches) was also cancelled. TVA explained: “We are fully aware that this series is very popular with the public. However, the established and current budgetary parameters for its production unfortunately do not allow us to renew it.”

The network continued, stating: “In a context where TVA is facing a marked decline in advertising revenue and an economic environment that puts significant pressure on our operations, we must unfortunately make difficult choices to ensure the viability of our programming schedule and the sustainability of our content.”

Passez au Salon is co-produced by Attraction and Déferlantes, in collaboration with Québecor Contenu. The season two finale, which now serves as the grand conclusion, will air this Wednesday at 9 PM on TVA and TVA+.
