Mikey Day and Ryan Gosling: A Comedy Duo for the Ages
Ryan Gosling and longtime Saturday Night Live cast member Mikey Day have proven they possess incredible comedic chemistry – even when they’re not actively performing together. Their recent interactions, particularly a playful video chat shared by Gosling’s wife, actress Eva Mendes, have captivated fans and highlighted their genuine bromance.
A ‘Pal-entine’s Day’ Promotion Gone Hilariously Wrong
The fun began when Gosling wished Day a happy “Pal-entine’s Day,” but the seemingly innocent gesture quickly revealed itself as a thinly-veiled attempt to promote Gosling’s new movie, Project Hail Mary. The exchange, captured in a video, is a masterclass in comedic timing and playful banter.
“Ryan, what up, dude? You’re hosting SNL again, I’m so excited!” Day exclaimed, referencing Gosling’s hosting gig on March 7th. Gosling, however, steered the conversation towards his film, peppering the chat with greeting cards and plot points that left Day delightfully confused.
“Sorry, what is this?” Day finally asked, cutting through the charade. “Is this like a marketing thing for your movie or something?”
Gosling, maintaining the joke, responded, “Yeah, but you were excited, right? You were saying, it comes out on March 20.” Day’s deadpan reply, “I did not say that,” perfectly encapsulated the humor of the situation.
From SNL to the Red Carpet: A Continuing Partnership
This isn’t the first time Day has playfully assisted Gosling in promoting his work. Following their viral “Beavis and Butt-Head” sketch during Gosling’s Season 49 episode of SNL, the duo revived their iconic characters on the red carpet premiere of Gosling’s The Fall Guy, even playfully badgering Gosling’s co-star, Emily Blunt.
Day affectionately referred to Gosling as “my prince” during a November 2023 interview on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, further solidifying their endearing friendship. “Even as Beavis he’s beautiful, right?” Fallon remarked, a sentiment many fans share.
