Ohio Marriage License Details
For those unfamiliar with Ohio’s marriage license process, here’s a quick rundown. Couples can apply for a license in the county where either of them resides or where they plan to get married. The license is valid statewide for 60 days, after which a new application must be filed. To legally finalize the marriage, a signed portion of the license, completed by the officiant, must be returned to the probate court where the application was originally filed. Once received, certified copies of the marriage certificate become available.
It’s important to remember that marriage license applications are considered public record in Ohio, allowing for this type of investigation.
