Igloofest Quebec: Defying the Cold with Electronic Beats

The chill didn’t deter festival-goers who donned their warmest attire Thursday evening for the kickoff of the 4th edition of Igloofest Quebec. The festival has taken over Place Jean-Béliveau and will continue to pulse with energy until Saturday. Attendees interviewed by Le Journal expressed their eagerness for this annual winter electronic music event, now a staple for many.

“We try to come to Quebec City or go to Montreal every year. There aren’t really any other events comparable during the winter, so it’s fun to have electronic music like this in the middle of winter,” said Frédéric Thibault, accompanied by a group of friends. “It’s colder than in recent days, but we’re warming up by dancing. We should be more comfortable in the coming days,” added his friend, Béatrice Drouin.

A More Immersive Experience

This year’s festival boasts a significant upgrade in its visual presentation. “We’ve added a lot of square footage of screens on the stage, making it even more interesting technically and in terms of projection,” explains Raphaëlle-Ann Samson, delegate producer at Gestev. This enhanced scenography promises a more immersive and visually stunning experience for attendees.

Expanding the Igloofest Family

For the first time, Igloofest has opened its doors to 16 and 17-year-olds, who eagerly embraced the opportunity to defy the winter blues on Thursday night. “We had demand, so we wanted to broaden the offering and felt that this year’s lineup was particularly well-suited to that demographic, especially with Zeds Dead on Friday,” Samson stated. The festival organizers are confident that this younger audience will integrate seamlessly with the existing crowd, appreciating the inclusive and safe environment Igloofest provides.

Headline Acts and Weekend Highlights

The house duo Disclosure ignited Place Jean-Béliveau late Thursday evening with their first-ever performance in Quebec City. They were preceded by 1tbsp, the dance/electro project of Australian artist Maxwell Byrne, and Quebec’s own Audrey Bélanger, who opened the festivities at 7 p.m.

Thousands more are expected to attend through Saturday evening, with vibrant performances scheduled, including a debut appearance by English producer and DJ Chris Lake. Tickets are still available for Friday and Saturday night. Don’t miss out on this unforgettable winter experience!
