While Angèle and Santa ultimately penned tracks for the album – including the recently released single “Dansons,” co-written with longtime collaborator Jean-Jacques Goldman – Cardin’s involvement didn’t quite materialize.

Why the Collaboration Didn’t Happen

Cardin explained that timing and artistic direction played a role in the decision. “It was in discussion, but I was also in the process of writing my own album,” she shared. “So, there were some exchanges, but I’m not, at least a priori, one of the people who wrote for her album.” It seems Dion’s team was looking for a specific sound that didn’t quite align with Cardin’s current musical style.

Despite not contributing to the album, Cardin holds immense respect for Dion and the “massive machine” surrounding her career. “I have a great respect for her and her work, for the sacrifices she has made,” Cardin stated, acknowledging the dedication and commitment that have defined Dion’s decades-long success.

A Dream of Sharing the Stage

While songwriting collaboration didn’t pan out, Cardin still harbours a strong desire to connect with Dion through music. She expressed a fervent wish to share the stage with the singer during her upcoming residency at Paris La Défense Arena this fall. “I would love to sing with her at least once in my life. But I don’t know if she will have guests,” she admitted.

Cardin particularly admires Dion’s unwavering dedication to her fans. “What I find very impressive about her is her devotion to her audience,” she noted. This connection with her fanbase is a cornerstone of Dion’s enduring legacy.
