Carnaval de Québec: A Winter Wonderland Comes to a Close

The 72nd edition of the Carnaval de Québec is drawing to a close, but there’s still plenty of winter fun to be had this weekend! With particularly mild temperatures forecast, it’s the perfect time to experience the magic of this iconic Canadian festival. Here are five events you absolutely shouldn’t miss.

1. Nuit Blanche Carnavalesque: A Night of Festivities

Following its huge success last year, the Nuit Blanche Carnavalesque returns this Saturday! The Cercle de la Garnison will be transformed into a vibrant playground, with music, activities, and surprises continuing until sunrise. From temporary tattoos and hair styling to Dungeons & Dragons, billiards, and tarot readings, there’s something for everyone – culminating in a winter midnight swim! Tickets are still available.

2. Smash d’Escalade de Glace: Ice Climbing Competition

For adrenaline junkies, the inaugural “Smash d’Escalade de Glace” (Ice Climbing Smash) competition is taking place at Parc de la Chute-Montmorency this Saturday. Watch as climbers battle it out in head-to-head duels on ice walls ranging from 30 to 60 meters, racing to reach the summit. Tickets are also available for those who want to experience the thrill firsthand.

3. Rappel Down Château Frontenac: A Breathtaking Descent

Daredevils can take the plunge with a rappel down the iconic Château Frontenac! This exclusive Carnaval activity allows participants to descend the central tower of Québec City’s most photographed hotel, offering a stunning, unforgettable view of the St. Lawrence River. It’s a truly unique perspective of the city.

4. Night Parade on Grande Allée: A Spectacle of Light and Sound

After igniting the Lower Town last weekend, Bonhomme Carnaval is taking over Grande Allée for the second night parade this Saturday. Expect a dazzling display of pyrotechnics, dance, and even circus performers in pajamas! All the ingredients are there to spread the magic of Carnaval throughout the Upper Town. Quebec Original provides more details on the parade route and schedule.

5. Paint the Bonhomme Palace: A Creative Finale

As the sites prepare to close on Sunday, Carnaval-goers are invited to unleash their creativity and leave their mark on the legendary Bonhomme Palace with free spray paint. Spaces are limited for this final, colourful activity that will conclude the festivities of the 72nd edition. Don’t miss your chance to be part of Carnaval history!
