Bedaine: A Unique Superhero Story on ICI TOU.TV

Written and performed by Ryan Doucette, Bedaine is a comedy series that blends the world of superheroes with the charm of Canada’s Atlantic coastal villages. The show tackles themes of belonging, grief, and friendship with humour and humanity – how do you carry on when you’ve lost everything? Directed by Christian Essiambre for Connexions Productions, the 8-episode series (each approximately 21 minutes 30 seconds long) premiered on ICI TOU.TV EXTRA on February 26th, with the remaining episodes launching on March 5th.

From Hero to ‘Bedaine’

Three years after a tragic event, the once-celebrated superhero known as Le Moineau (Ryan Doucette) lives in seclusion in his hometown of Sainte-Lucie-des-Lueurs, Nova Scotia. Disillusioned, battling alcoholism, and struggling with self-worth, he’s now known by the mocking nickname “Bedaine” while working at a rundown car dealership, trying to forget the hero he once was. His wings no longer serve to fly, but constantly remind everyone of what he was… and what he’s lost.

A Colourful Cast of Characters

Surrounding Bedaine is a vibrant cast of characters: Rolanda (Florence Brunet), a clumsy but devoted young saleswoman; Donald “the doughnut” Doucette (David Losier), the village’s only police officer dreaming of making a difference; Mayor Adrien (Luc LeBlanc), vain yet endearing; Victoria (Diane Losier), a tyrannical boss; Bruce (Kevin Doyle) and Guillaume (Marc Lamontagne), small-time criminals; and Super Merveilleux (Thomas Beaudoin), a charismatic former teammate enjoying peak glory, constantly highlighting Bedaine’s failures.

A Village Transformed?

Everything changes when ambitious scientist Dr. Évelyne (Sofia Blondin) arrives with a plan to transform the village into a hub for genetically modified cannabis. Bedaine is forced to rise to the occasion and protect his community while relearning to believe in himself – without a cape, without fanfare, but with a heart that refuses to give up.

What Does it Mean to be a Hero?

Bedaine questions the very definition of heroism. Is it about having superpowers, or simply continuing to fight despite setbacks? In this small town where normalcy has a unique flavour, the answer is never simple… because here, the unpredictable is part of everyday life.

The Cast & Crew

Bedaine also stars Ludger Beaulieu, Sinem Kara, Marko Estrada, Marshall Button, Tommy Des Rosiers, Denise Bouchard, Josiane Benoit, Sam Essiambre, Calix Losier Roy, Sabrina Aubé, and many others. This production was made possible thanks to the support of the Canada Media Fund, the Province of New Brunswick, and the Province of Nova Scotia.
