Watson: Return Date, Season 2 Episode 11 Sneak Peek, and What to Expect

“Watson” is Back: Prepare for a Thrilling Mid-Season Premiere!

For many, the holiday season is synonymous with quality time with family and a well-deserved break. However, the winter hiatus of beloved network shows can dampen the festive spirit. Following the tenth episode of Season 2, “Never Been CRISPR’d,” CBS’s Watson, starring Morris Chestnut, took a nearly three-month break. Frankly, the first two months of 2026 haven’t felt quite the same without our weekly dose of diagnostic intrigue at the Holmes Clinic of Diagnostic Medicine.

Fortunately, the wait is almost over! Watson returns this Sunday at 10 PM ET with the eleventh episode, “The Tunnel Under the Elms,” resuming its regular timeslot. The episode will also be available for streaming on Paramount+.

What to Expect in “The Tunnel Under the Elms”

The synopsis for the upcoming episode promises a high-stakes scenario: “Watson and the fellows race against the clock to save a man and his pregnant wife from a terrifying sinkhole.” As always with Watson, time is of the essence. The former London-based consulting detective, now a medical head, faces one of his most challenging cases yet.

Beyond the immediate medical crisis, the episode will also delve deeper into Ingrid’s (Eve Harlow) journey with group therapy. This storyline, often considered the most underrated of the season, continues to explore complex and nuanced themes.

Exclusive Sneak Peek

Collider has partnered with CBS to offer an exclusive sneak peek into the action. Watch the preview here and get a taste of the gripping case-of-the-week.

Showrunner Insights: Craig Sweeny on the Return

Speaking as part of Collider’s Exclusive Spring Preview event, showrunner Craig Sweeny explained the creative direction behind the mid-season premiere: “We wanted to kick off Watson Season 2’s move to Sundays with an episode that puts Watson and the Fellows in a really high-octane situation, but still has an interesting medical mystery baked right into the center of it. The more research we did on the frightening power of sinkholes, the more it started to feel like the natural spine of a mid-season premiere.”

Sweeny continued, “So, while Watson is fighting to help this couple medically, he is also trying to help them fight to save their marriage at the same time. On top of that, this episode has a really nice backstory reveal for Shinwell that is going to pay off in a big way later in the season. It is an emotional moment for Shinwell, and one we have been looking forward to showing the audience all season.”

Robert Carlyle’s Expanding Role

Season 2 of Watson dramatically shifted the narrative by revealing that Sherlock Holmes is, in fact, alive, portrayed by Robert Carlyle (known for Hamish Macbeth and Trainspotting). Carlyle’s career continues to flourish, as he’s also been cast in the highly anticipated Season 7 of Line of Duty, slated for release in 2027.

Don’t miss Watson Season 2, Episode 11, “The Tunnel Under the Elms,” airing this Sunday at 10 PM ET on CBS. Stay tuned to Collider for more exclusive content from our Spring Preview Event.
