The 126th Victoria Day Parade: A Record-Breaking Celebration of Heritage and Spirit

Get ready, Victoria! One of British Columbia’s most cherished traditions is returning. The Victoria Day Parade is back for its 126th anniversary, promising a vibrant display of community pride, creativity, and cultural diversity in the heart of the capital city.

This year’s event is shaping up to be one of the biggest yet. According to Kelly Kurta, Executive Director of the Greater Victoria Festival Society (GVFS), the parade has reached a record-breaking milestone with a whopping 88 entries and nearly 4,200 participants. From the rhythmic beat of marching bands and the grace of cultural performers to majestic floats and military representatives, the parade is a true reflection of the city’s eclectic spirit.

What Makes This Year’s Parade Special?

Beyond the numbers, it is the artistry that steals the show. The GVFS highlighted that the extraordinary floats—many custom-built specifically for this event—are more than just entries; they are “expressions of heritage, creativity, and love for the city.” This commitment to excellence was recently recognized on a national level, with the Society winning a prestigious award for the 25th-anniversary celebrations held last year.

A New Route for a Safer Experience

In a significant change for 2026, the Victoria Day Parade will follow a new route traveling along Victoria’s Inner Harbour. Participants will now move up Government Street and navigate Wharf Street before looping back.

This strategic adjustment was implemented to prioritize public safety, following new city guidelines established after the tragic events at the Vancouver Lapu Lapu Day Festival. To ensure a secure environment for thousands of spectators, the city has implemented:

    n

  • Enhanced fencing and digital signage for better crowd flow.
  • Increased traffic control and specialized security vehicles.
  • Deployment of Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems (RPAS) by the Victoria Police to monitor crowd density from above.
