Val Chmerkovskiy Briefly Hospitalized Due to Vertigo During ‘Dancing With the Stars’ Tour
“Dancing With the Stars” professional dancer Val Chmerkovskiy recently experienced a health scare while on tour, leading to a brief hospital visit in Peoria, Illinois. The dancer shared a video on social media from his hospital bed, describing the issue as a “small hiccup.”
“I ended up out here in Peoria,” Chmerkovskiy explained in the video posted on Sunday. He had performed with the tour group at the Peoria Civic Center the previous day but began experiencing symptoms of vertigo. “I’ve just been having Vertigo for the past couple of days. I had it yesterday, and I was able to get through the show.”
Understanding Vertigo
Vertigo, as defined by the Cleveland Clinic, is a sensation that the environment around you is spinning. It can cause dizziness and a loss of balance. It’s not a disease itself, but rather a symptom of underlying health conditions, often related to issues within the inner ear.
Chmerkovskiy described the sensation vividly, stating, “I’m just spinning everywhere. On the bus, when it’s moving. I just woke up and I couldn’t get myself together.” The condition can arise from viral infections or the dislodgement of tiny calcium crystals within the inner ear, disrupting equilibrium.
“Once that kind of crystal in your equilibrium goes out, it’s really hard to get back in,” Chmerkovskiy added, highlighting the disruptive nature of the condition.

Monday was designated as a day for rest and medical testing. Chmerkovskiy expressed optimism about a swift recovery, stating he “hopes to be back Tuesday.” He shared updates on his progress, confirming that blood work and vital checks had been completed.
