The Rock’s Whirlwind Week: From CinemaCon to Potential WWE WrestleMania 42 Appearance
Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson recently graced Las Vegas, fueling speculation about a possible return to the WWE ahead of WrestleMania 42 at Allegiant Stadium. While fans haven’t seen The Rock on WWE programming consistently – his last appearance was at the 2025 Elimination Chamber Premium Live Event, sparking John Cena’s unexpected heel turn – his presence in Vegas has ignited the rumor mill.
A Family Man First
Following a promotional appearance at CinemaCon for the upcoming live-action Moana remake (set to release July 10th), The Rock revealed his immediate plans. He emphasized a commitment to family, stating he was flying home Thursday evening to celebrate his daughter Tia’s eighth birthday. “My youngest is going to turn eight tomorrow,” he shared. “Happy birthday, Tia. I know you’re going to see this. I love you. I’m coming home tonight.”
WrestleMania 42: Will The Rock Answer the Call?
Despite prioritizing his daughter’s birthday, a return to Las Vegas isn’t entirely off the table. WrestleMania 41 saw significant buzz surrounding a potential Rock appearance, and with expectations perhaps lower this time around, a surprise appearance could be a major moment for the PLE.
Storylines Beckoning: Punk, Reigns, and a Corporate Angle
Several ongoing storylines could logically incorporate The Rock. CM Punk has repeatedly referenced The Rock in his promos leading up to his match against Roman Reigns for the World Heavyweight Championship, headlining WrestleMania Sunday. Punk’s pointed commentary on Reigns’ family makes bringing The Rock into the narrative a natural progression.
The developing situation with Pat McAfee and Randy Orton also presents an opportunity. Both are positioning themselves as saviors of the WWE, directly challenging Cody Rhodes – a competitor with a recent history with The Rock at WrestleMania 40 and Elimination Chamber 2025.
Given The Rock’s position as a member of the TKO board, a corporate-style storyline seems particularly plausible. He could easily take on an on-screen role, influencing events from behind the scenes. Alternatively, a scenario similar to WrestleMania 41 could unfold, with McAfee potentially stepping in as a key player in one or both championship matches, mirroring Travis Scott’s role last year.
The possibilities are numerous, and The Rock’s recent presence in Las Vegas has undoubtedly heightened anticipation among WWE fans. Whether he’ll ultimately appear remains to be seen, but the stage is certainly set for a potentially electrifying return.
