‘The Chosen’ Season 6: Prepare for a Profound Journey
Dallas Jenkins, the creator of the groundbreaking biblical drama ‘The Chosen,’ recently shared tantalizing glimpses into the upcoming sixth season during a livestream event. He described the scenes as both “heavy” and filled with “joy, beauty, and meaning,” hinting at a deeply emotional and impactful experience for viewers.
Jenkins believes Season 6 will resonate with more people than any previous installment. “This is the moment when we’re all in,” he stated, emphasizing that the first five seasons have meticulously built towards this pivotal point – Seasons 6 and 7.
Teasing the Final 24 Hours: Arrest, Confusion, and Faith
The first teaser clip offered a raw look at the immediate aftermath of Jesus’ arrest, showcasing the chaos and uncertainty among his disciples. The clip concludes with a focus on Judas’s disappearance, prompting questions about his fate and the unfolding events. Jenkins highlighted that the season will delve into the often-overlooked details of how the news of Judas’s betrayal spread and how the disciples grappled with the situation.
“The theme of Season 6 in many ways is how devastated and confused the followers of Jesus were, but they still had to trust and they still had to have faith,” Jenkins explained. This season will dramatically depict the final 24 hours of Jesus Christ’s life, known as Good Friday, including his arrest, crucifixion, and the disciples’ subsequent scattering in confusion.
A Deeper Dive into Emotional Realities
Another clip showcased the disciples’ somber walk away from the Garden of Gethsemane after witnessing Jesus’ arrest. Jenkins emphasized the importance of exploring the disciples’ reactions and internal struggles during this harrowing moment. He believes this scene offers a powerful lesson on finding solace and strength “when we are in the midst of suffering, sadness, confusion, doubt, pain.”
A bonus clip revealed a glimpse of Judas in the aftermath of his betrayal, adding another layer of complexity to the narrative.
Challenges and Triumphs in Production
Jenkins candidly admitted that filming Season 6 was “by far the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my career.” While acknowledging the “heavy” and potentially painful scenes, he assured viewers that the season will also be filled with “joy and beauty.”
The release of Season 6 will be phased, beginning this fall, with official dates to be announced this Friday. Jenkins explained the extended production timeline is due to the simultaneous creation of versions in dozens of languages, rather than relying on post-production translations. The season also boasts more extensive visual effects and longer episode runtimes.
Release Details and Season 7 on the Horizon
The first six episodes of Season 6 will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in fall 2026. The season finale will then receive a global theatrical release in spring 2027. (See Deseret News for more details.)
Filming for the seventh and final season is slated to begin within a month, with the script and other details nearing completion. Jenkins, still recovering from the intensity of Season 6, expressed his exhaustion but also his unwavering commitment to bringing the story to a satisfying conclusion. Production for Season 7 will also return to Goshen, Utah.
