A Heartwarming Reunion: Sofia Vergara and Her ‘American Family’
It seems the bond between the Modern Family cast is just as strong as it was during their time on screen. Recently, actress Sofia Vergara took to Instagram to share some touching photos from a dinner gathering with her former TV husband, Ed O’Neill, as well as TV stepchildren Julie Bowen and Jesse Tyler Ferguson, and show producer Christopher Lloyd.
With the caption, “With my American family!!! I can’t believe it’s been 6 years since the Modern Family finale!!! I miss u guys!!!” Vergara reminded fans that while the show ended in 2020, the friendships forged on set are lifelong.
The Legacy of a Comedy Powerhouse
For those who might need a refresher, Modern Family was more than just a show; it was a cultural phenomenon. Over its 11-season run on ABC, the series captured the chaos and love of contemporary family dynamics. The show’s success was undeniable, boasting an impressive track record:
- n
- 250 episodes of laughter and growth.
- 22 Emmy Awards in total.
- Five consecutive wins for Best Comedy Series.
Vergara, who brought the vibrant Gloria Pritchett to life, shared the screen with Ed O’Neill (Jay Pritchett), Julie Bowen (Claire Dunphy), and Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Mitchell Pritchett), creating one of the most beloved ensembles in television history.
A Special Bond: Sofia Vergara and Ed O’Neill
Beyond the laughs, Sofia Vergara has always been vocal about her deep admiration for Ed O’Neill. In a candid interview with People magazine, Vergara revealed that the cast still maintains a very active group chat, but her connection with O’Neill is particularly special.
“I miss Ed O’Neill so much,” she shared. “Most of my scenes were always with Ed O’Neill… He was such a great friend, such a great pillar for me, because that was like my first really acting job.” For Vergara, having a veteran like O’Neill to guide her through the pressures of a hit show was a “dream” experience.
Keeping the Family Together
This recent dinner isn’t the only time the group has reunited. In 2023, Vergara hosted a massive reunion featuring almost the entire Modern Family cast, including Sarah Hyland, Eric Stonestreet, Ariel Winter, Rico Rodriguez, Nolan Gould, and Aubrey Anderson-Emmons. Even though Ty Burrell couldn’t attend in person, the cast made sure he was part of the celebration with a comedic photo placed on the mantel.
Whether through group chats or intimate dinners, it’s clear that the cast of Modern Family continues to embody the love and connection they portrayed on screen for over a decade.
