Sarah Pidgeon Channels Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s Timeless Style
One homage simply wasn’t enough for actress Sarah Pidgeon. As the star of FX’s Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, Pidgeon has been captivating audiences not only with her performance but also with her impeccable fashion choices, paying tribute to the late style icon, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.
A Masterclass in Method Dressing
On the eve of the biopic’s release (February 11th), Pidgeon stepped out looking the very essence of CBK in not one, but two stunning leather coats. Stylist Emma Jade Morrison expertly navigated the challenge of capturing Bessette-Kennedy’s aesthetic without veering into imitation. The result? A series of looks that are both respectful and undeniably chic.
Her first appearance featured a $3,800 Affine Coat from AFLALO. The coat’s minimalist design – a collarless neckline and hidden placket – lent itself to a sophisticated, dress-like silhouette. Paired with matte black square-toe pumps, the ensemble was a clear nod to Bessette-Kennedy’s signature style.

From Trench to Tribute
Later that day, Pidgeon showcased a more modern take on CBK’s style with a glossy, trench-turned-dress. The navy blue leather coat, illuminated by paparazzi flashes, boasted a patent exterior. Lacquered Le Monde Béryl knee-high boots and shield sunglasses from Jimmy Fairly completed the look, evoking a rainstorm-ready energy.
Pidgeon’s second leather coat looked especially rain jacket-ish.
Echoes of the ’90s
In the early 1990s, before becoming a Kennedy, Bessette-Kennedy frequently sported black leather outerwear, particularly oversized blazers. She often paired these with calf-length silhouettes, like those seen on Pidgeon, reserved for trenches, fur-trimmed pieces, and wool wraps.
During filming of Love Story last June, Pidgeon donned an almost-identical leather blazer, reminiscent of a 1993 Bloomingdale’s event where Bessette-Kennedy showcased her signature style. She completed the look with a black mock-neck blouse, satin slip skirt, and even Converse Chuck Taylors – a pairing confirmed by author Elizabeth Beller’s 2024 biography, Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, as something the real CBK herself would wear.

With the release of Love Story, fans are eagerly dissecting the costumes, hoping for more leather jacket moments. Whether or not they made the final cut, Pidgeon’s dedication to capturing Bessette-Kennedy’s style is undeniable.
