Security Breach: Sabrina Carpenter Takes Legal Action Against Stalker
Global pop sensation Sabrina Carpenter, known for her chart-topping hits like “Espresso” and “Please Please Please,” has recently faced a terrifying ordeal in her private life. The 27-year-old star has been granted a temporary restraining order after a series of “deeply alarming” encounters with a man at her Los Angeles residence.
While Carpenter continues to dominate the Billboard charts with her infectious pop anthems, the reality behind the scenes has been far from melodic. According to court documents, the singer is seeking a permanent court order against an individual identified as William Applegate.
A Pattern of Fear and Harassment
The legal filings paint a disturbing picture of escalating harassment. Carpenter alleges that Applegate attempted to force his way into her home on multiple occasions, leaving her in a state of “significant and ongoing fear” for her personal safety.
The singer described the man’s behaviour as a systemic pattern of stalking, trespassing, and surveillance, which has caused her severe emotional distress. The most harrowing incidents include:
- n
- The May 23 Incident: Applegate allegedly trespassed onto a neighbour’s property to reach Carpenter’s front door, where he tried to enter the home and refused to leave until the police arrived.
- Fabricated Claims: During his arrest, the individual falsely claimed he personally knew the star and that she was expecting him—a claim Carpenter describes as a “complete lie.”
- Persistent Loitering: Within 24 hours of the first arrest, the man returned to loiter outside her home for several hours, followed by another incident where he parked outside her residence.
The Court’s Ruling and Police Warnings
In a move to ensure the safety of the Grammy winner and her household—which includes her sister and her sister’s boyfriend—a judge has granted a temporary restraining order. The court has mandated that the individual stay at least 100 yards away from Carpenter, her home, her vehicle, and her workplace.
The Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) has expressed serious concerns regarding the suspect’s mental state. Detective Peter Doomanis stated in his declaration that the man has developed a “disturbing and irrational fixation” on the singer.
“The pattern of his conduct reflects the hallmarks of a fixated, obsessional individual… this trajectory is consistent with well-documented patterns of stalking behaviour that pose a serious and escalating risk,” noted Detective Doomanis.
What Happens Next?
The legal battle is far from over. A follow-up court hearing is scheduled for June 17, and the individual is expected to appear in criminal court the following day to face charges related to criminal trespassing.
This incident serves as a stark reminder of the privacy challenges faced by high-profile artists in the digital age. As fans continue to support Sabrina Carpenter’s meteoric rise in the music industry, the hope is that these legal measures will finally bring the singer the peace and security she deserves.
