Niall Horan Opens Up About Health Worries and New Music
Niall Horan, the former One Direction star, recently shared some candid thoughts on his health, revealing concerns about potential joint issues and the possibility of needing a hip replacement in the future. The 32-year-old singer, who underwent reconstructive knee surgery in 2014, admits his joints are already showing signs of wear and tear.
Speaking on The Zach Sang Show, Horan expressed his anxieties, stating, “My knees are f****ed. The hips are going now too.” He attributes this predisposition to genetics, noting that both his father and uncle have already undergone multiple joint replacement surgeries.
Family History and Genetic Predisposition
“I think I was just genetically f***ed from the day I was born,” Horan joked, before detailing his father’s recent health journey. “My dad is 66 this year. He’s just had a knee replacement. He’s had a hip done 18 months ago. He’s getting another hip done now.” Despite his father being significantly older, Horan recognizes a clear pattern within his family.
“I know, but it was clearly in there,” he acknowledged. “My uncle had two knees done. Like, it’s a thing. I think I was just ruined from the day I was born.” This family history understandably fuels his concerns about his own long-term joint health.
‘Dinner Party’ and the Muse Behind the Music
Beyond his health, Horan also discussed his latest musical endeavor, the album Dinner Party. He revealed that his girlfriend, Amelia Woolley, served as a significant “muse” for many of the songs, deeply impacting the emotional core of the album. “She did a lot of crying,” Horan admitted, highlighting the emotional resonance of his work.
A Fan’s Inspiration: The Story Behind ‘Flowers’
In a heartwarming gesture, Horan is actively searching for a fan to grant a songwriting credit. The inspiration for his song “Flowers” originated from a tweet by a fan who wrote, “Your eyes could grow flowers.” Horan was captivated by the imagery and intends to acknowledge the fan’s contribution. “I need to find that person because I need to give them their writing credit,” he explained.
Finding Contentment with Amelia Woolley
Horan has been openly affectionate about his relationship with Amelia Woolley, whom he’s been dating since 2020. He recently described her as “amazing” and emphasized the importance of having a supportive partner. As he told GQ Hype, “Having someone to rant with and listen to and be listened to is huge. I’m glad I found it.”
The couple enjoys a relaxed and simple lifestyle, often finding their weekends slipping away in comfortable domesticity. “We’re also big procrastinators. Friday’ll come, and I’ll be like, ‘Can’t wait for the weekend’, and then Sunday night comes and we’ve done nothing. We spent the whole weekend in the house,” Horan shared with a laugh.
Adapting ‘The Fellowship’
Finally, Horan revealed a new creative project: adapting six chapters from J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Fellowship of the Ring that were omitted from the film adaptations. This demonstrates his diverse artistic interests beyond music.
