NCIS Universe Expands: ‘NCIS: New York’ Spinoff Confirmed for 2026-27 Season
The NCIS franchise is continuing its impressive expansion with the announcement of NCIS: New York, slated to premiere during the 2026-27 television season. This marks the eighth installment in the hugely successful franchise (or ninth, if you include its predecessor, JAG). Like all series within the NCIS-verse, NCIS: New York is produced by CBS Studios.
LL Cool J and Scott Caan Lead the New Team
In a thrilling return for fans, LL Cool J will reprise his iconic role as Sam Hanna, a character he’s brilliantly portrayed in NCIS: Los Angeles. Joining him is Scott Caan, who will play a “roguish agent” and co-lead the team alongside Hanna. This dynamic duo promises a fresh and exciting take on the NCIS formula.
CBS Doubles Down on a Winning Formula
The announcement came during CBS’s presentation of its 2026-27 schedule. Amy Reisenbach, President of CBS Entertainment, emphasized the network’s commitment to the NCIS brand. “When you’re home to the number one television franchise in the world, you must build on success and keep expanding the universe,” Reisenbach stated. “And quite frankly, our fans demand it.” This sentiment underscores the immense popularity and dedicated fanbase that drives the franchise forward.
Behind the Scenes: Creative Team
R. Scott Gemmill, known for creating The Pitt and his work on NCIS: Los Angeles, is penning the pilot and will serve as an executive producer. He’ll be collaborating with Byron Balasco (Kingdom, Without a Trace) who will act as showrunner, alongside LL Cool J and Jason Barrett. This experienced team is poised to deliver a compelling and high-quality series.
Where and When to Watch
NCIS: New York is scheduled to air on Tuesdays, strategically positioned between the flagship NCIS series and the prequel, NCIS: Origins. NCIS: Sydney will take over the timeslot previously held by NCIS: Origins at midseason. This placement ensures maximum exposure for the new series and caters to the loyal NCIS audience.
LL Cool J’s Expanding Role in the Franchise
This new spinoff marks the third NCIS series where LL Cool J will be a regular cast member, following his successful run on NCIS: Los Angeles and a guest appearance in the final season of NCIS: Hawai’i in 2024. He’s also slated to make guest appearances on the original NCIS on April 21st and 28th, further cementing his connection to the franchise.
