It seems karma has a sense of humor, especially when it comes to Melissa McCarthy and her dad! The beloved “Bridesmaids” star recently shared a comical tale of a shared injury on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” revealing she fractured her finger shortly after playfully poking fun at her father for doing the same.
The story began with McCarthy’s 86-year-old father taking a tumble and injuring his hand. Despite her concerns, he initially resisted a trip to the doctor. “My dad — who is wonderful, very feisty, moves quickly — he fell and hurt himself a little bit but didn’t go to the doctor, which I’m like, ‘That’s what you want to do at 86,’” McCarthy explained during her interview. A week later, he finally sought medical attention, revealing a clearly broken finger.
But the universe wasn’t finished. While recounting the story to her cousin, McCarthy found herself on the receiving end of a similar fate. “I was talking to my cousin, and I was lovingly giving my dad a hard time because I’m like, ‘He’s always gotta go 100 miles an hour! He’s gotta do this! He’s gotta do that!’” she shared. “I’m doing it, I slammed my hand into the base of the table I was sitting at and fractured my finger.”

McCarthy and her dad ended up sporting matching finger casts on their middle fingers – a visual testament to the ironic turn of events. Her father underwent hand surgery, and McCarthy, while at the doctor’s office, jokingly inquired about her own injury. “I was like ‘I’m not trying to get free medical advice, but I think I have jacked up my finger.’ And then he took an X-ray and said, ‘Yeah, you fractured it. Good job.’”
