By the Power of Grayskull! The ‘Masters of the Universe’ Trailer is Here!
Prepare to relive the magic! Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel Studios have unleashed the official trailer for their highly anticipated live-action Masters of the Universe feature film, slated for a theatrical release in the U.S. on June 5, 2026. Sony Pictures International Releasing will handle international distribution.
From Cubicle to Eternia: A New He-Man Emerges
The trailer introduces us to Adam Glenn (played by Nicholas Galitzine), a seemingly bored office worker leading a mundane life. His desk plate subtly displays “He/Him” pronouns – a clever nod to both contemporary society and, of course, the iconic He-Man himself. But his ordinary existence is about to be shattered when his legendary Sword of Power is rediscovered, setting him on a collision course with destiny on both Earth and Eternia.
This isn’t just a reboot; it’s a reimagining of the classic 1980s Mattel toy line, bringing a fresh perspective to a beloved story. Directed by Travis Knight, Masters of the Universe sees Prince Adam embracing his heroic fate as He-Man.
A Star-Studded Cast Battles for Eternia
Alongside Galitzine, the film boasts an impressive ensemble cast including Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Duncan/Man-at-Arms, and Jared Leto embodying the villainous Skeletor. The trailer showcases a thrilling confrontation between He-Man and a formidable Skeletor, promising an epic showdown.
But let’s not forget the real star – Battle Cat! The magnificent, armored tiger (formerly Cringer, Prince Adam’s timid house cat) is a visual highlight, and a fan favorite.
CGI Concerns and Creative Minds
While the trailer is visually stunning, some viewers have noted a significant amount of computer-generated imagery (CGI), particularly during the He-Man vs. Skeletor battle. The question arises: why rely so heavily on CGI for key live-action sequences? The Hollywood Reporter has reached out for clarification, and we await a response.
The Full Lineup
The cast also includes Alison Brie, James Purefoy, Morena Baccarin, Jóhannes Haukur Jóhannesson, Charlotte Riley, and Kristin Wiig lending her voice to Roboto. The screenplay is a collaborative effort from Chris Butler, Aaron Nee, Adam Nee, and Dave Callaham, with a story developed by the Nees alongside Alex Litvak and Michael Finch.
Masters of the Universe is produced by Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal, Robbie Brenner, Steve Tisch, and DeVon Franklin, with Ynon Kreiz, Bill Bannerman, and David Bloomfield serving as executive producers.
