Mark Chesnutt Briefly Halts Shows Due to Illness – Here’s the Latest
Fans of country music icon Mark Chesnutt were concerned this week after the singer unexpectedly ended a performance early at the Oxford Performing Arts Center in Oxford, Alabama on February 12th. A statement released by the venue on Facebook cited a “sudden illness” as the reason for the curtailed show, promising ticket holders the option of a refund or rescheduling.
Reports from attendees indicated Chesnutt only completed three songs before stopping, with many expressing surprise at the abrupt end to the concert. Despite the disappointment, fans were largely supportive, with one commenting, “Even sick, he sounded better than some artists these days!”
Recent Cancellations and Rescheduling
Following the Alabama show, Chesnutt also canceled or postponed performances scheduled for February 13th in Augusta, Georgia, and February 14th in Smithfield, North Carolina. Fortunately, the Smithfield show has already been rescheduled for March 29th. As of now, there’s no word on a makeup date for the Augusta concert.
What’s Causing the Health Concerns?
Given Chesnutt’s history of health issues in recent years, fans understandably expressed worry. However, a representative for the singer assured Taste of Country that the current situation is “nothing major.” The singer is currently battling a sinus infection that was affecting his voice, making it impossible to continue performing.
“Mark has been fighting off a sinus infection. It was affecting his voice and he wasn’t able to continue the show,” the publicist explained. “He should be good to go soon.”
A History of Health Battles
This recent setback comes after Chesnutt has faced several significant health challenges. In 2023, he underwent back surgery to repair a fractured spine. In June 2024, he required emergency quadruple bypass surgery due to a “heart health issue.” Perhaps most bravely, Chesnutt revealed in April 2025 that he had battled alcohol addiction for years, nearly losing his life before achieving sobriety in November 2023. Last October, Chesnutt was hospitalized and forced to miss a show in Louisiana due to low sodium and dangerously high blood pressure. He apologized to fans at the time, expressing his desire to reschedule.
Looking Ahead
Chesnutt’s next scheduled performance is on February 21st in Jackson, Mississippi. Fans are hopeful for a swift recovery and look forward to seeing him back on stage. His dedication to his craft and his openness about his health struggles continue to resonate with audiences.
