Luke Grimes and Riley Green: A Rising Star Duo in ‘Marshals’ and Beyond

The anticipation is over! Country music sensation Riley Green is making his highly anticipated acting debut in CBS’s “Marshals” next week, taking on the role of Garrett, a complex former Navy SEAL with a hidden talent for guitar. This four-episode performance promises a dramatic turn for the country star, premiering on Sunday, April 19th at 8 PM ET/PT.

A Reunion on Screen

Green, 37, joins the “Yellowstone” universe alongside his real-life friend, Luke Grimes, who is captivating audiences once again as Kayce Dutton. The series sees Kayce, a seasoned former SEAL who served alongside Garrett in Afghanistan, extending a helping hand to his old friend as he seeks solace in Montana. “He’s been through a lot,” Green shared with USA TODAY, describing his character. “He comes back into (Kayce’s) life, and Kayce is trying to help him out. It’s a tough character.”

Music and Camaraderie

The connection between Green and Grimes extends beyond the screen. In a poignant scene set to air on April 26th, Riley performs his song “My Way” by a campfire, with Grimes watching on. While the performance is a solo effort, it highlights the deep bond between the two artists. Interestingly, Grimes has expressed a reluctance to have his character, Kayce Dutton, suddenly reveal hidden musical talents. “It would be really bizarre for people to see Kayce pull out a guitar and be like, ‘I’ve been hiding this skill the whole time,’” Grimes explained.

From Songwriting to the Screen

The opportunity for Green to join the cast of “Marshals” arose organically during a songwriting session in Nashville. Green casually mentioned his interest in exploring acting just as the “Marshals” project was taking shape for Grimes. “I just thought getting (Green) on ‘Marshals’ was a super good idea, and he was really excited about it,” Grimes revealed.

A Supportive Presence

Grimes went above and beyond to support his friend, even attending Green’s audition in Park City, Utah, alongside show producers. “I guess that doesn’t happen all the time, where the star of the show sits in with somebody trying out for a part,” Green admitted. “But man, I’ve got to be such good friends with Luke, and it makes it so much easier to step into a world that I wasn’t necessarily comfortable in.” Their on-screen chemistry is undeniable, and they share numerous scenes together throughout the series.

A Mutual Exchange of Talent

Grimes affirms that Green delivers a powerful performance across his four episodes, “absolutely crushing it.” The support is reciprocal; Green contributed to Grimes’ recently released album, “Red Bird.” “Luke is going to have a career in country music. It’s exciting that I can help him out in some small way,” Green stated. “He’s obviously helped me out quite a bit on my acting career.”

Don’t miss the premiere of “Marshals” featuring Riley Green on April 19th at 8 PM ET/PT on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
