Powerball Jackpot Winner: $231 Million Dream Come True!

Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner! One incredibly fortunate lottery player has become a millionaire overnight, claiming the $231 million Powerball jackpot. The winning ticket, purchased in Delaware, matched all five numbers plus the Powerball in the drawing held on Monday, April 6th, according to the official Powerball website.

Claiming the Prize

The winner has the option to receive the grand prize through annual installments or a one-time lump-sum payment of $104.9 million. As of today, the jackpot remains unclaimed. Following the win, the Powerball jackpot has reset to $20 million for the upcoming drawing on Wednesday, April 8th.

A Winning Streak in 2026

This win marks the third time this year that a player has defied the odds and won the Powerball jackpot. Previously, a player in North Carolina won a $209.3 million prize on January 21st, and another lucky winner in Arkansas claimed a $250.8 million jackpot on March 2nd.

The Winning Numbers

Here are the winning numbers from the Monday, April 6th Powerball drawing: 7, 24, 37, 42, 57, and the Powerball is 5. The Power Play multiplier was 2x.

While no one matched all five numbers for the $1 million prize, a player in Texas won the $2 million Match 5 + Power Play prize.

Where are the Luckiest States?

According to previous reporting by USA TODAY, the top five states with the most lottery winners include Indiana, Missouri, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.

How to Play the Powerball

The Powerball is currently available in 45 states, as well as Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The states that do not currently offer Powerball are not listed. Tickets cost $2 per play and can be purchased at various locations, including convenience stores, gas stations, and grocery stores. In some states, online ticket purchases are also available, depending on local regulations.

Choosing Your Numbers

To play, you must select six numbers. Five of these are white balls numbered from 1 to 69, and the sixth is a red Powerball ranging from 1 to 26. You can also opt for the “Quick Pick” option, allowing the computer to randomly select your numbers.

The Power Play Option

For an additional $1, you can add the “Power Play” to your ticket, which multiplies non-jackpot winnings. The Power Play multiplier can be 2X, 3X, 4X, 5X, or even 10X!

Can Anyone Win?

The answer is yes! You do not need to be a U.S. citizen or resident to play Powerball. Anyone visiting one of the participating locations can purchase a ticket from an authorized retailer, provided they meet the legal age requirement (usually 18 years old).

Powerball Drawings

Powerball drawings are held every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday night. If no one wins the jackpot, the prize money continues to grow.
