Lauren Graham Embraces Dramatic Roles in ‘Reminders of Him’ and ‘Twinless’
Lauren Graham, best known for her iconic role as Lorelai Gilmore, is taking on increasingly challenging and dramatic roles, captivating audiences with her versatility. Her recent projects, including ‘Twinless’ and the highly anticipated Colleen Hoover adaptation, ‘Reminders of Him,’ showcase a new side of the beloved actress.
‘Reminders of Him’: A Story of Redemption and Second Chances
Colleen Hoover’s ‘Reminders of Him’ is set to hit the big screen, offering a poignant narrative about a young woman navigating life after prison. The story follows her journey as she attempts to rebuild her life, reconnect with her daughter, and find love again. The film stars Maika Monroe, Tyriq Withers, and Rudy Pankow, with Lauren Graham and Bradley Whitford portraying the grandparents who initially resist Monroe’s character’s attempts to reconnect with her child.
This role represents a significant departure for Graham, a fact that greatly appealed to her. As she shared with The Hollywood Reporter, “I feel so excited when somebody thinks of me for something that is not the things I usually get thought of for. I found something so moving in that actually, and I went to work on it in a way I haven’t worked on something in a long time.”
A Shift Towards Dramatic Work
Graham’s willingness to explore more complex characters extends beyond ‘Reminders of Him.’ She also starred in ‘Twinless’ last year, another role that challenged her established image. “If there was more Lorelai [Gilmore] to do, I would do it, but the facsimiles are not as good,” Graham explained. “And I think there’s something to growing older and you just hit a different kind of part.”
The cast of ‘Reminders of Him’ also marks a shift for its leads. Maika Monroe and Tyriq Withers, previously known for their work in horror and thriller genres, embraced the emotional depth of the romantic drama. Monroe expressed her delight, stating, “It was so lovely doing a film so different than what I’ve done…My favorite genre is romance movies, rom-coms and rom-dramas, and it just felt very surreal to be a part of one.”
Withers echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the emotional responsibility of the role. “I had to live in that vulnerability…If you don’t believe the chemistry or the heart where we’re performing from then we’re not in a good place. It was a lot more emotional responsibility with this film.”
